The ABC program "What Would You Do?" is getting ready to tackle the issue of vegan-bashing. If you've ever seen the show, you know that actors portray a specific controversial scenario in a public setting to see how bystanders react.
This Friday, the program will enlist actors playing an overbearing meat-loving couple, a waitress, and a vegan mom and her young daughter. The meat lovers will openly question and dismiss the dietary choices of the vegan mother and daughter.
According to an article on the ABC site by Tami Sheheri the scene unfolds like this:
When a couple forces a hot dog on a young girl in a New Jersey restaurant, neighboring diners are confused and surprised; the girl’s mother had clearly said that the family does not eat meat, dairy or animal by-products.
“Everyone eats hamburgers, it’s un-American not to eat meat,” said the man, urging the girl to enjoy the hot dog.
“So she gets no protein,” added his companion.
It will be interesting to see how the other diners react to this situation, particularly when the mother leaves to go to the restroom and the meat lovers try to force the little girl to eat a hot dog. Regardless of how one feels about the diet, it would be difficult to watch any strangers pressure a little girl to do something against her mother's wishes.
