The group, according to the Telegraph, is planning to launch a porn site under a new .xxx domain.
The site will be a mingling of pornographic content and graphic images of animal suffering.
The plan is already raising a few eyebrows for using sex and specifically provocative images of women to promote animal rights. Anti-PETA Facebook groups such as "Real Women Against PETA" and "Vegetarians and Vegans Against PETA" have already started springing up online.
We at Veggie Scene are no prudes, but we do find it particularly troubling that PETA is intermingling sex and violence. Who is to say that many people won't go to the site specifically for images of suffering animals interspersed with sex. Let's face it, there are a lot of sickos out there.
It's also slightly disturbing that a group that promotes animal rights is focusing primarily on exploiting women to spread its message. Perhaps a more "equal opportunity" site would have made this seem a little less disingenuous. It just seems that PETA wants to shock without really caring about the efficacy of their stunt. Somehow, we doubt that horny dudes at their computers will suddenly shift their focus to the plight of animals. We will see though, as PETA's porn site is set to go live any day.
