PETA to Obama: How About Some Veggie Wings?

In preparation for the big game yesterday, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) wrote a letter to Obama's personal chef, urging her to choose veggie wings for this year's Superbowl.

The animal rights organization not only encouraged the Obamas to go veggie for the game, they also handed out free samples of veggie wings in D.C. and Indianapolis.

Here is a sample of the letter from PETA to the white house chef, as reported by the Washington Examiner:

I’m not sure whether you will be watching the Super Bowl this coming weekend, but I suspect you will be cooking up a storm for the President and First Family's Super Bowl evening. I’m also not sure if you have heard that 600 million, yes million, chickens will lose their wings and their lives just for this one game. That's why I am making a special request to you:  please will you serve up some delicious, totally cholesterol-free, tasty, and cruelty-free faux wings for this event?  Although President Clinton's chef cooked veggie burgers for him and made vegetarian meals for Chelsea, I think you would be making history.  I doubt faux chicken wings, although they are easy to find nowadays in any grocery store, have been served in the White House ever before.
So what did the Obamas end up having for the Superbowl? Well, let's just say that they didn't seem to take notice of the the faux wings suggestion. In fact, the menu, released by the White House, included a who's who of meats and dairy products. Check out the official menu below.
– Bratwurst
– Kielbasa
– Cheeseburgers
– Deep Dish Pizza
– Buffalo Wings
– German Potato Salad
– Twice Baked Potatoes
– Snyders Potato Chips and Pretzels
– Chips and Dips
– Salad
– Ice Cream
– Beverages including the following beers: Hinterland Pale Ale & Amber Ale (from Wisconsin), Yuengling Lager and Light (from Pennsylvania) and White House Honey Ale.
So it looks like the Obamas are pretty far from the idea of adding a faux meat to the Superbowl lineup. We are actually kind of surprised that there weren't more healthy options, especially since Mrs. Obama is focused on promoting healthy eating choices. We know that an all-veggie Superbowl is out of the question, but maybe they could add a veggie chili next year. Just a suggestion.
