Lilies are lethal for cats. If a cat even nibbles on a petal or licks pollen off of her paws, she could experience kidney failure and die within 72 hours. This is why it is so important to keep all lilies away from cats. If you own cats, do not even bring a lily inside your home, even if it is going to be placed where the cats can't reach it.
If your cat has come into contact with lilies, get him to a vet as soon as possible. Do not wait for symptoms. If you can treat the cat before the kidneys are damaged, you have a chance at saving his life.
Instead of lilies this Spring, why not try a beautiful bouquet of tulips, daffodils, crocuses or pansies? There are a variety of cat-friendly blooms that will add color to your home without putting your cat in jeopardy. If you are in doubt, ask your florist for a lily-free assortment.
